How to Cook the Perfect Turkey Roll
Cooking a turkey roll is a fantastic option for a festive feast or an intimate gathering. Follow our easy step-by-step instructions to achieve juicy, tender turkey every time.
Ingredients:
Your choice of turkey roll (1.5kg – 4kg)
Olive oil, salt, and pepper
Butter
Optional accompaniments: Our homemade turkey gravy or cranberry sauce
Method:
Step 1: Prep the Turkey
Take your turkey roll out of the fridge 30 minutes before cooking to bring it to room temperature. Season generously with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
Step 2: Preheat Your Oven
Set your oven to 180°C.
Step 3: Cooking Times
Follow these guidelines for cooking your turkey roll based on its size:
1.5kg: Cook uncovered for 35 minutes. Then wrap in foil with a knob of butter on top and cook for another 35 minutes.
2kg: Cook uncovered for 40 minutes, then foil-wrapped with butter for 40 minutes.
2.5kg: Cook uncovered for 50 minutes, then foil-wrapped with butter for 45 minutes.
3kg: Cook uncovered for 55 minutes, then foil-wrapped with butter for 50 minutes.
3.5kg: Cook uncovered for 60 minutes, then foil-wrapped with butter for 60 minutes.
4kg: Cook uncovered for 65 minutes, then foil-wrapped with butter for 65 minutes.
Step 4: Check Doneness
For perfect results, use a cooking thermometer. The turkey roll is cooked when the internal temperature reaches 66–70°C.
Step 5: Rest the Turkey
Remove the turkey from the oven and allow it to rest for 20 minutes under a second layer of foil. This step ensures the juices settle, making the meat tender and moist.
Step 6: Serve and Enjoy
Slice your turkey roll and pair it with our turkey gravy or cranberry sauce for the ultimate festive meal.
